MICRONEEDLING with SkinPen®

This is a very natural and truly regenerative procedure because it is one of the only modalities that taps into skin cell regeneration with minimal downtime. It is collagen induction therapy that uses a mechanised needling device, armed with sterile, ultra-fine needles to create thousands of micro-channels in the skin which activates the bodies healing responses, gently stimulating the release of growth factors and the regeneration of new skin tissue.

This non-invasive technique which triggers the healing mechanisms of the skin to naturally induce new skin tissue production works as a means of addressing the skin ageing process.

You will have a thorough consultation with your practitioner before undergoing any treatment. This allows you to decide whether the treatment is right for you with the advice of a skincare professional. Our professionals are here to ensure you make the right decision for you; we will only go ahead with a treatment if we believe it is in your best interests.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING MY APPOINTMENT?

  • We will carry out a full consultation and take your medical history. This is our opportunity to make sure that the treatments we recommend are suitable, and your opportunity to tell us about what your skin goals are. We will talk to you about all options, and make sure you are completely comfortable before going ahead.
  • We will explain how the different treatments work, how they feel on your skin, how your skin may look immediately after treatment and the days following along with the all important aftercare and post-treatment advice, which includes your at home skin regime.
  • We have a duty of care to ensure you are fully informed before undergoing any treatment. Once you’re happy (and we’re happy) we will make you comfortable and commence your treatment, talking you through it step-by-step. Need some more time to think? No problem at all, take your time. We’ll send you all the relevant information so that you can come back to us when you’re ready.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER MY TREATMENT?

Although our aim is healthy, plump and glowy skin, some of our treatments carry minimal downtime, so you can expect to be slightly red immediately afterwards. Microneedling leaves the skin pink with a mild sunburnt like appearance.  It is important to fully understand that advanced skin treatments are often stimulating so some mild, temporary reactions are occasionally expected and will be discussed during your consultation.

There are very few, minimal after effects and many of our clients are able to return to their normal activities following their treatment.

You ‘may’ experience:

  • Skin redness and flushing (like mild sunburn)
  • Tightness, itching, tenderness & sensitivity.
  • Light flaking of the skin may begin within 1-3 days.

Avoid the following for the first 24-48 hours:

  • Strenuous exercise & activities that may cause excessive perspiration.
  • Extreme temperatures such as intense sunlight, hot baths or showers.
  • Using a sunbed, spa, sauna or swimming pool.
  • Drinking alcohol.
  • Use of Retinol (Topical Vitamin A), Exfoliating scrubs or acids like Glycolic Acid
  • Facial hair removal; electrolysis, waxing, bleaching, depilatory creams and laser for at least 72 hours or until your skin shows no sign of sensitivity in the treated area.

We also recommend:

  • Follow the aftercare advice provided by your practitioner.
  • Only using the aftercare products recommended by your practitioner.
  • Do not touch the skin unnecessarily immediately post treatment this will be important to avoid any post treatment infection.
  • Gently washing the treated area, but do not rub or massage the face for 24 hours.
  • Apply a sunscreen daily minimum SPF30+.
  • Do not pick at any flaking skin it should be left to shed naturally.
  • Not having this treatment within two weeks of a special event, so that any potential flaking/peeling/redness can subside.
